CentOS /Linux: How To Upgrade System To The Latest CentOS 6.9

The CentOS officaial site has released the latest CentOS 6.6 version. How do I upgrape the current CentOS system ( Centos 6.5, CentOS X) to CentOS 6.9 ? this post will show you the ways to upgrade the CentOS system.

​Upgrading System To CentOS 6.9

Step1# before upgrading system, you’d better to have a check for current CentOS system version, issue the following comand:

$sudo cat /etc/issue

Output:

[root@osetc~]$ sudo  cat /etc/issue

CentOS release 6.3 (Final)

Kernel \r on an \m

Step2# Checking which packages need to update, issue the following command:

$sudo yum check-update

Outputs:

[root@osetc~]$sudo  yum check-update

base                                                                    | 3.7 kB     00:00

base/primary_db                                                | 4.6 MB     00:01

extras                                                                  | 3.4 kB     00:00

extras/primary_db                                             |  29 kB     00:00

gf                                                                       | 2.9 kB     00:00

Step3# this step will start to upgrade CentOS system, type:

$sudo yum update

Step4# reboo CentOS system, type:

$sudo reboot

Step5# checking the CentOS version again after rebooting

$cat /etc/redhat-release

CentOS release 6.9 (Final)
